If you want a front door that looks and feels like solid timber but never needs sanding, staining or repainting, a composite door is the answer. Ayrshire Windows And Doors supplies and fits premium composite doors to homeowners across Ayr, Prestwick, Irvine, Kilmarnock, Largs and every town in between.
What Exactly Is a Composite Door?
A composite door is engineered from multiple materials that are bonded together to create a single, high-performance slab. The outer skin is made from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), a tough material that resists scratches, dents and UV fading. Beneath that skin sits a solid hardwood timber core, which gives the door its weight, rigidity and the satisfying feel of a traditional wooden door. Surrounding the timber core is a layer of high-density polyurethane foam insulation, and the entire assembly is set within a reinforced uPVC or aluminium outer frame.
This layered construction is what sets composite doors apart. Each material contributes a specific strength. The GRP provides weather resistance, the timber delivers structural integrity, and the foam insulation ensures outstanding thermal performance. The result is a door that outperforms single-material alternatives in virtually every measurable way.
Security That Meets the Highest Standards
Every composite door we fit is equipped with a high-security multi-point locking system. The lock engages hooks, bolts and rollers at multiple positions along the frame edge, distributing force across the full height of the door and making it extremely difficult to lever open. We also fit anti-snap, anti-pick and anti-drill euro cylinders as standard, providing protection against the most common break-in techniques. Many of our composite doors are Secured by Design accredited, a police-backed initiative that recognises products tested to resist sustained attack.
Hundreds of Colours and Styles
Gone are the days when a replacement door meant choosing between white, brown or rosewood. Our composite door range includes over 200 colour options, from timeless shades like black, slate grey and cream to eye-catching choices such as peacock blue, poppy red and pastel green. Every colour is applied with a through-colour GRP finish, meaning it will not peel, flake or fade over time. You can also choose from a variety of woodgrain textures that closely mimic the look of oak, walnut and other natural timbers.
Design options extend to glazing, too. Rectangular, arched and circular glass panels are available, along with decorative leading, etched patterns and obscure glass for added privacy. Sidelights and toplights can be added to create a grander entrance if your opening allows.
Engineered for Scottish Weather
Ayrshire's position on Scotland's west coast means our doors must contend with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and salt-laden air. Composite doors handle these conditions with ease. The GRP skin is completely impervious to moisture, so the door will never swell, shrink or rot. Triple-sealed edges keep driving rain and draughts firmly outside, while the insulating foam core delivers thermal efficiency that can help lower your heating costs through the long Scottish winter.
